Choosing Your Cushion Inner

When you order from Lavender Living, most cushion covers are available in three options: Cover Only, Cover + Polyester Inner, and Cover + Feather Inner. Here's what each means and how to choose.

Cover Only

Perfect if you already have an inner pad at home, or if you'd like to choose your own filling. A cover-only order includes the handmade cushion cover with zip fastening — ready for your existing pad. We recommend using an inner that is one to two inches larger than the cover for the best plump, full finish (see sizing note below).

Polyester Inner Pad

Our polyester hollow-fibre pads are easy to care for, and hold their shape well over time. They give a firm, structured look — great for cushions that will be handled often or used in a child's room. Polyester pads can be machine washed, on a hand wash cycle, making them a practical everyday choice.

Feather Inner Pad

Our deluxe European duck feather inners give cushions that classic feel you see in editorial interiors. The feathers have more natural curl, giving the pad a full, plump look without feeling overly heavy. Give your cushion a regular shake and plump to keep it looking its best. Sponge clean or dry clean only. Not suitable for those with feather allergies.

Sizing: Why We Use an 18" Inner in a 16" Cover

You may notice that cushion covers listed as 16 inches are paired with an 18-inch inner pad. This is intentional and is the professional standard for a full, plump finish.

Using an inner one to two inches larger than the cover means the fabric is gently stretched, filling out all four corners and preventing that flat, under-stuffed look. The result is a cushion that looks as good as it does in the photographs — rounded, generous, and well-finished.

If you are purchasing a Cover Only and sourcing your own pad, we recommend the same rule: go one size up from the cover measurement for the best result.
